When Abby was taken by a Mer Creature, Connor took the harpoon gun to try and kill the Mer, but Cutter ordered Connor to lower the weapon due to risk that he could end up killing Abby with it.

Nick Cutter, Connor Temple and Abby Maitland took a harpoon gun with them when they went out onto a canal in the Isle of Dogs searching for creatures. The harpoon gun was among the weapons in the armoury that Oliver Leek showed to Connor Temple and Abby Maitland, but it was useless like everything else there since they were looking for something that could clear Precambrian fog.

When Cutter was attacked by a Mosasaur in the Cretaceous bay while trying to return through the Anomaly, he fired the harpoon gun at the Mosasaur, but the harpoon bounced off the creature's skin and only slowed it down due to the Mosasaur's tough armour. When Nick Cutter was assigned to swim through an underwater Anomaly into the Cretaceous in search of Helen Cutter, Stephen Hart gave Cutter a harpoon gun, as a defensive weapon against any predators in the Cretaceous, and Cutter subsequently took the harpoon gun through the Anomaly with him. Some versions of this harpoon gun also possessed a rope connecting the harpoon and the gun itself, with which to bind harpooned creatures to nearby structures and limit their movement. With a higher quality weapon, and therefore fewer shots, you have less opportunity to lose Torpor in this way.The harpoon gun used by the Anomaly research team was a large, rifle-like gun, with one large, metal harpoon at the end that could be fired at creatures and enemies. This can create the illusion that it has a higher ratio because, for a tame requiring lots of shots, you can lose Torpor between shots if you take a while. This remains constant, but obviously you just need fewer shots. Quality doesn't affect Torpor/Damage ratio. It took me 10 darts to put down a 150 mammoth, with 2 headshots (I have a method I always use with mammoths and the first 2 shots are always headshots, the rest end up in the body) using the MC Longneck, it took me 5 darts to put down another 150 mammoth when using the ASC Longneck. That has to come from ASC vs Jelly Doughnuts I have a 203% damage MC Longneck and a 204% damage ASC Longneck. I can only compare this with this experience. I'll get that at a cheaper value then the harpoon gun. With it only being 107% but an apprentice quality I should get an extra oomph behind each shot but still have low enough damage not to kill the thing. I wasn't trying to compare a 107% crossbow to the harpoon gun per se, more comparing to a standard crossbow. So a 107% Apprentice has higher damage/torpor then say a Ramshackle with the same damage. My understanding is the higher the quality of weapon has effect too. Can you explain the mechanics of Torpor as I'm struggling to understand how you're getting extra torpor with less damage.
